Ryan Moore has made history by winning the Breeders' Cup Turf for a record sixth time. The English jockey rode Benvenuto Cellini to victory at Keeneland in Kentucky, beating compatriot James Doyle on Map Of Stars by three-quarters of a length. Moore's win marked a record-extending eighth victory for Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien in the race. O'Brien praised Benvenuto Cellini, saying the horse showed a lot of class and that Moore rode him perfectly. Moore's achievement is a testament to his skill and experience, having been appointed an MBE for services to racing and British sport in June. Benvenuto Cellini's dam, Newspaperofrecord, also won the Breeders' Cup in 2018. In the Breeders' Cup Classic, Junior Alvarado won with Sovereignty, a four-year-old horse that was previously scratched from competing last year due to fever. Alvarado's victory was described as 'spectacular' and a result of the horse's hard work and dedication. The win marked a triumphant return for Sovereignty, who had been given a second chance by the Godolphin team.
