Noel McNamara, the current attack coach at Bordeaux Begles, has been appointed as the new head coach of Leinster Rugby, replacing Leo Cullen who will leave the role at the end of the current season. McNamara has a long association with Leinster, having previously spent five years with the club in various roles, including Leinster 'A' head coach and academy manager. He has also coached Ireland's Under-20s to a Six Nations Grand Slam in 2019. McNamara's appointment is seen as a significant coup for Leinster, with the club's chief executive Shane Nolan describing him as the preferred candidate from an early stage in the process. The IRFU's performance director David Humphreys also praised McNamara's coaching experience, leadership qualities, and ability to develop players and coach successful teams. McNamara will remain with Bordeaux until the end of the current season before taking over at Leinster next summer. He has a proven track record of success, having helped Bordeaux win consecutive Champions Cups and finishing as runners-up in the Top 14 on two occasions. Leinster are looking to build on their recent successes under Cullen, who has led the club to six league titles and the Champions Cup in 2018.
