The Amelia Schoolhouse Inn, located in Fernandina Beach, Florida, has a rich history dating back to 1886 when it was built as the first school on Amelia Island. The original four-room structure, designed by architect Robert Sands Schuyler, has undergone several expansions and transformations over the years. After ceasing to function as a school in the 1930s due to overcrowding, the building was repurposed as a library office, a Masonic Lodge, and eventually a boutique hotel in 2017. To restore the property, approximately 5,000 exterior bricks were replaced with historic red common bricks. The hotel now features 17 guest rooms, a swimming pool, and a peaceful courtyard with a putting green. Guests can enjoy a drink or meal at The Principal's Office, a bar specializing in historic cocktails, including a Prohibition-era menu. The hotel's central location allows guests to easily access Amelia Island's parks, restaurants, and historical buildings, such as the Villa Las Palmas House and the Nassau County Courthouse. The Amelia Schoolhouse Inn offers a unique blend of history and modern comfort, making it an attractive destination for those seeking a charming and relaxing getaway.
